A scoped line, then a real plan

Sewer line repair, matched to what the camera actually finds

Several drains backing up at once, a wet patch in the yard that will not dry, a sewage smell that keeps returning: these point at the buried line between the house and the street, and we scope it with a camera before deciding how to fix it.

Q.

What actually causes a main sewer line to fail?

Root intrusion at a joint or a hairline crack is the most common cause, particularly on an older run near established trees. A pipe section can also settle unevenly across the decades, sagging into a dip that traps solids instead of letting them pass through, or a joint can pull apart slightly as the surrounding soil shifts. All three produce the same surface symptom, several fixtures draining slowly or backing up at once, which is why we scope the line with a camera before any repair gets planned, not after.

Digging on a guess wastes yard and money in roughly equal amounts. A camera locates the actual defect and its depth, and it also shows whether the run is a candidate for a trenchless fix or genuinely needs to be opened up, a decision worth making with footage in hand rather than an assumption.

WHAT POINTS AT THE MAIN LINE

Signs it’s the sewer line, not one drain

  • More than one drain backing up at the same time

The clearest indicator that a shared line downstream of individual fixtures is the actual problem, not any one of them.

  • The lowest fixture in the house backs up first

Usually a floor drain or the lowest toilet in the house, because it sits closest to wherever the main line is actually obstructed.

  • A wet or unusually green patch of yard that will not dry

Can mean the pipe running beneath it has cracked or pulled apart at a joint, worth confirming on camera before a shovel ever goes in.

  • A sewage smell outdoors that keeps coming back

Sometimes traceable to a slow leak from the buried run rather than to anything happening inside the house.

DAVIE, SPECIFICALLY

What we’re actually looking at on a Davie property

Three things about how this city is built shape a sewer line repair here.

Municipal sewer is not universal across the city

Central and eastern Davie generally runs on municipal sewer, while large-lot and equestrian-zoned parcels west of University Drive commonly sit on private septic instead, which means the same symptoms call for a different diagnosis entirely.

Decades of settling under slab-on-grade construction

Most of the 1970s-1990s tract homes across the central town sit on a concrete slab, and the lateral running out to the street has aged alongside the house; in the oldest pockets that lateral is still cast iron, one more reason it eventually fails.

Broward County owns the connection past the property line

The county maintains the main once it leaves your property, but permitting and repair on the homeowner’s side of that connection go through the same Broward County process no matter which part of Davie the house sits in.

Questions we get about sewer line repair

Do you always have to dig up my whole yard?

Rarely the whole yard. What the camera scope shows usually decides it, and many runs can be relined or replaced through a couple of small access points instead of a full open trench.

How long does a repair like this usually take?

A trenchless job is frequently done in a day. A traditional dig on a longer run takes more, and we give you a real estimate once the camera scope is finished.

Is this the same thing as a problem on my septic system?

No. A sewer line repair applies to a home connected to municipal sewer. On a septic system the equivalent failure is usually the tank or drainfield, which we treat as its own separate job.

Will homeowners insurance cover this?

That depends on your policy and the actual cause, which is a question for your insurer. We can provide the camera footage and our findings to support a claim either way.

How urgent is it once multiple drains start backing up together?

Call the same day. Sewage returning into a house is a health hazard as much as a plumbing failure, and it rarely improves on its own without someone intervening.

Can the recorded footage help with a future issue on the same line?

Yes. We keep our notes on what the camera found, so if a symptom returns later there is a real baseline to compare against instead of starting from nothing.

Drains backing up together?

Let’s scope the line before anyone breaks ground

A camera tells us what is actually wrong with the run out to the street, so the repair matches the real problem.
